Research Tool in Google Docs

Research

The research tool in Google Docs is one of the best kept secrets. It allows you to do research simultaneously as you are writing or editing your document. From one place you can search different Google services including: Scholar, Images, Quotes, Dictionary. It also allows students to cite sources in MLA, APA, or Chicago citation format. This is a great way to make sure students are not plagiarizing.

To access the research tab click on "tools" and select "research"

The great thing about this Research tool is that it allows you to easily insert citations and links to your document. When you find a web link that you want to add to your document, hover your mouse pointer. You will have the option to: Preview/ Insert Link/Cite” and it will automatically be displayed in the place where you want it to be in your Google Doc.
*Click on “cite” automatically inserts the citation according to the style you want ( MLA or APA, or Chicago).

Google Classroom: Move Assignments

Google Classroom recently added the feature where you can move a post to the top. This allows you to reorganize the stream. In the upper right hand corner of a post notice there are 3 dots to indicate “More options.” Click on these 3 dots to access the option to “Move to top.”  http://www.alicekeeler.com/teachertech/google-classroom/

Other Information:

Tech Tip:
Event Merge for Google Calendar
When using Google Calendar™ you may have one event on multiple calendars. For instance on your work and personal calendar, on your work calendar and your team's shared calendar, or on many co-work's calendars. These can clutter up your calendar and make it hard to read. This extension merges all those separate events into one event, and gives it strips with all the individual calendars' colors.

Student Accounts:
All students have Google accounts! Student username is his/her longIDnumber@pasoschools.org and password is birthday: mm/dd/yy. Get your students connected!
For example:  8000541@pasoschools.org    password  11/09/98
